JoBlo.com launches ambitious horror documentary entitled 80s Horror Memories!

Hey all, to go in tandem with JoBlo.com’s 25th Anniversary (yes, we’ve been kicking butt that long) we are very proud to present to you 80’s Horror Memories, a new weekly doc-series (xxx episodes in all) which just premiered today on our YouTube Channel JoBlo Horror Originals. Feast your retinas on Episode 1 via the embed above and you can expect a new installment to go live every Monday on the channel.

Our first Episode chronicles:

“With the death of disco in 1979 and a demand for change, the 1980s evolved into a neon-soaked totally rad decade held firm together with cans of “Aqua Net” burning a hole in the ozone. Time for free love and hope for peace was over. It was time for a revolution. But with filmmakers, their creative freedoms would lead to explore more areas which haven’t been touched on before. It was the year horror would forever be changed. We’re talking Dressed to Kill, Maniac, Alligator, the Home Video boom and more! This is 1980, A New Beginning in our 80’s Horror Memories.”

Our series will deep dive into each year of that special decade that helped shape the horror movie industry into the one we all know and love today. We not only cover every nook and cranny of the biggest horror themes from 1980 to 1989 but also what was happening in the world at the time while at the same time conveying our own nostalgic memories of that magical decade.

Specifically, we will focus on the development of the genre during those years including the launch of the biggest names in the horror movie industry today including Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, Chucky, Pinhead and more! And, yes, you can expect Special Guests to surface in varied episodes with their own thoughts and horror memories.

JoBlo.com founder Berge Garabedian and I have been developing this series since June of 2022, arduously building it brick by bloody brick alongside our stellar team of showrunners (Mike Conway and Adam Walton), writers, editors, artists, as well as our trusty narrator. Lots of time, passion and elbow grease by all involved has gone into this baby as it has become our most ambitious project of all-time. We truly hope you enjoy it, support it and share the “Night of the Living Shite” out of it!

Our inaugural episode was Written/Edited By Mike Conway, Narrated By Tyler Nichols and Produced by Berge Garabedian and moi, John Fallon. The glorious synth score was composed by Shawn Knippelberg.

The Special Guests in this episode are: Craig Perry (Final Destination), Doug Jones (Hellboy), Eric Red (The Hitcher), Patrick Lussier (Scream) and Sandy King (They Live). A big thank you to all of you for your time and supporting us. You’re all class!

And we would like to introduce you to our 80’s Horror Memories mascot: Johnny Horror (created by artist Johnny Crap). Check out that handsome devil in our poster below!
