Trailer: Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning promises insane Cruise stunts

The first trailer for Dead Reckoning has arrived, showcasing the sort of stuntwork that the series has become synonymous with.

The official trailer for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One has arrived, and if you weren’t hyped for Tom Cruise’s stunts before, you will be now.

Not only does the Dead Reckoning trailer introduce the conflicts that Ethan Hunt will face, but showcases a lot of the incredible stunt work that has made the Mission: Impossible franchise one of the best action series ever. Amid warning that “the world is changing, truth is vanishing, war is coming”, we see Hunt leaping a motorcycle from a cliff (considered “the most dangerous thing we’ve ever attempted”), battling on top of a speeding train and so much more. When confronted by Esai Morales’ main baddy, Hunt issues this: “If anything happens to them, there’s no place that I won’t go to kill you. That…is written.”

One of the most impressive moments in the Dead Reckoning trailer comes in the much-discussed train sequence, a sequence that Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie used silent legend Buster Keaton, action director John Frankenheimer and epic movie master David Lean more as inspiration.

In Dead Reckoning, “Ethan Hunt and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: To track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, and dark forces from Ethan’s past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most.” The cast also features newcomer Hayley Atwell, in addition to returners Ving Rhames as computer tech Luther Stickwell, Simon Pegg as field agent Benji Dunn and Rebecca Ferguson as former agent Ilsa Faust.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One drops into theaters on July 12th, while Part Two on June 28th, 2024.
