Hugo Weaving, James Callis, and more join Gary Oldman in season four of Slow Horses, Apple TV’s spy thriller series.
The third season of Slow Horses hasn’t yet debuted, but the filming for the fourth season is already underway with a few new additions to the cast. Deadline has reported that Hugo Weaving (The Lord of the Rings), James Callis (Battlestar Galactica), Joanna Scanlan (Notes on a Scandal), Ruth Bradley (Guilt), and Tom Brooke (Empire of Light) have joined the cast for Slow Horses season 4.
Slow Horses is a darkly humorous espionage drama that follows a dysfunctional team of British intelligence agents who serve in a dumping ground department of MI5 known un-affectionately as Slough House. Gary Oldman stars as Jackson Lamb, the brilliant but irascible leader of the spies, who end up in Slough House due to their career-ending mistakes as they frequently find themselves blundering around the smoke and mirrors of the espionage world. The fourth season is being directed by Adam Randall (I See You) and will “open with a bombing that detonates personal secrets, rocking the already unstable foundations of Slough House.” What role Hugo Weaving will play in the new season of Slow Horses remains to be seen, but he and the rest of the newbies are sure to make a welcome addition to the cast.
In addition to Gary Oldman, the returning Slow Horses cast includes Kristin Scott Thomas, Jack Lowden, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, Freddie Fox, Chris Reilly, Samuel West, Sophie Okonedo, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Kadiff Kirwan and Jonathan Pryce.
Our own Alex Maidy called Slow Horses “one of the most intriguing takes on spies in a very long time.” In his review of the second season, which debuted on Apple TV+ last year, Maidy wrote, “This is a decidedly British series that never feels foreign or hard to follow and keeps things interesting every step of the way. There are elements of a workplace comedy, an espionage drama, and enough action to satiate even the most jaded viewer.
