Jeremy Renner wrote “last words” to his family after accident

Jeremy Renner was conscious enough following his January 1st accident to begin writing a goodbye to his loved ones.

More than three months after his nearly fatal accident, Jeremy Renner is ready to discuss the traumatic moment, revealing that he began writing a goodbye to his loved ones.

This week, Good Morning America posted a teaser for Renner’s upcoming interview with Diane Sawyer, with snippets of the actor discussing one of the more harrowing moments of the accident. Choking back tears, Renner recalled, “I’m writing down notes in my phone to–last words to my family”, saying he was “awake through every moment.” You can watch the clip below:

Renner also said he was certain the accident would kill him but thankfully he had people by his side. “If I was there, on my own, that’d [have] been a horrible way to die. And surely I would’ve. Surely…But I wasn’t alone. It was my nephew. Sweet Alex. And the rest of the cavalry came.” Still, despite the pain, agony and suffering, Renner says he would go through it all again “because it was going right at my nephew.”

Thanks to that cavalry, Jeremy Renner was airlifted to the hospital, where he began his slow, exhausting and inspiring recovery from his accident. Renner has been detailing the progress of his recovery from the accident on social media throughout the past few months, from surgeries to therapy sessions to finally walking again with the help of an anti-gravity machine.

And it has all paid off, as not only does Renner have his first major interview following the accident lined up, but he’ll also be making his first public appearance at the premiere of his new show Rennervations next week, one day before its April 12th premiere on Disney+. Rennervations will find Renner “[traveling] the globe to reimagine decommissioned vehicles and rebuild them to serve a new purpose, such as turning a tour bus into a mobile music studio, a delivery truck into a mobile water treatment facility, a shuttle bus into a mobile recreation center, and a city bus into a mobile dance studio.”

Sawyer’s interview with Renner about his accident and recovery, dubbed “Jeremy Renner: The Diane Sawyer Interview — A Story of Terror, Survival and Triumph”, will air on ABC on Thursday, April 6th.
