Directed by Robert Young from a screenplay by Hugh Janes, All at Sea has the following synopsis: Two retired sailors, Wally and Skipper, are old workmates and best friends for 40 years now living at an old folks’ home in Norway. One day, Wally finds Skipper dead and he wants a burial at sea, the old-fashioned way, as he promised him. Wally isn’t going to let the fact that he doesn’t have a boat, any money or, for that matter, a body, stop him from keeping his word; and so he takes his friends May, George, and Nina on a bold mission to send the coffin to the bottom of the North Sea.
Cox is joined in the cast by Lauren Bacall, James Fox, Hege Schøyen, Kåre Conradi, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Sverre Anker Ousdal, Anne Ryg, Elsa Lystad, Astrid Overå, Harald Kolaas, Nicholas Hope, Janna Kari Kvinnesland, Jan Erik Madsen, Per Egil Ask, Robert Skjaerstad, Oddvar Husby, Steinar Raaen, Hans Aasland, Per Tofte, Anne Lena Hansen, Ola Sandvold, Håkon Karoliussen, and Øystein Martinsen.
All at Sea was the 43rd of the 45 directing credits Young has to his name. He got his feature directing career started with the 1972 film Vampire Circus, and over the decades his other credits have included Keep It Up Downstairs, The World Is Full of Married Men, the 1992 film Hostage, Splitting Heirs, Fierce Creatures, Blood Monkey, and an episode of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. The 2014 horror movie Curse of the Phoenix was Young’s last directorial effort… as of right now. We’ll have to wait and see if Young, who celebrated his 90th birthday last month, decides he has another movie in him, like Clint Eastwood.
