The tenth entry in the street racing-turned international action franchise is showing plenty of gas in the tank after Thursday previews.
Fast X was revving its engine and came off the line with $7.5 million in Thursday previews according to Deadline. The tenth entry in the Vin Diesel family saga with varying title wordplay is projected to see upwards of $60 million domestically this weekend and is projected to rake in $235 million for the global take. Compared to the previous entry’s Thursday preview total, Fast X has bested F9: The Fast Saga by nearly half a million when the ninth film would collect $7.1 million on its Thursday preview. Although, F9 would notably be released as one of the first big titles when movie theaters opened back up after COVID had shut them down for a spell.
Fast X is set to screen in a total of 4,048 North American theaters today. The last three movies did around the same business when they were released. 2015’s Furious 7 ($15.8M, $147.1M 3-day) and 2017’s Fate of the Furious ($10.4M, $98.7M 3-day). Before the 2013 Memorial Day holiday, Fast & Furious 6 did $7.5M from late-night shows that began at 10 p.m. That resulted in a $97.3M three-day total, and $117M over four days.
Fast X is said to have already made waves in theaters internationally with $58.6M, comprised of $25.7M through Thursday out of China, and Wednesday numbers of $32.9M from 38 markets where the pic was No. 1 in every territory it debuted including China, France, Germany and Korea.
Usually, the big stars of the film would do press rounds including getting interviewed on late-night talk shows, However, with the writers’ strike continuing, the talks shows are creating a gesture of solidarity by pausing productions on their shows from the networks until their demand is met. However, it’s a brave new world, and studios don’t have to necessarily rely on chat shows to get the word out when social media is extremely prevalent.

Core levels are above historic norms. This campaign extends even further across Twitter and TikTok as view levels are balanced across platforms — as well with the Big Game spot from Super Bowl 57, which saw a boost of 94.1M views for its trailer online in the 24-hours following the game,” Social media authority RelishMix reports.
