It’s clear that the film’s director, Greta Gerwig, is delivering something unexpected with the new Barbie movie, and I could not be more excited!
The new Barbie trailer shares more about the upcoming toys-to-life comedy plot, revolving around Barbie’s journey toward awareness of her identity in the real world. Until now, Barbie has lived in a land of non-stop beach parties, shopping sprees at the mall, and a will-they/won’t-they relationship with Ken. After she crosses over into our reality, she discovers her legacy, the evils of the patriarchy, and how there’s more to life than pink convertibles and filling your dream house with disposable junk. Once the people who make Barbie’s legendary timeline realize she’s a flesh and blood person, things get even weirder. Hold onto your pink sequined cowboy hat, folks. Barbie is going on her most fantastic adventure yet!

Greta Gerwig directs from a screenplay she wrote with Noah Baumbach, based on Mattel‘s rich history with the Barbie toy brand. The film’s producers are Oscar nominee David Heyman (Marriage Story, Gravity), Robbie, Tom Ackerley, and Robbie Brenner, with Michael Sharp, Josey McNamara, Ynon Kreiz, Courtenay Valenti, Toby Emmerich, and Cate Adams serving as executive producers.
