Italian Cultural Institute of New York & Cinello Announce First-Ever North American Digital Artwork (DAW®) Vernissage ‘MUSaEUM in New York’

Italian digital art company debuts an exclusive gallery of historic immovable masterpieces of Italian Renaissance art, with proceeds benefiting partner museums.

NEW YORK - December 9, 2022 - (Newswire.com)

Leading Italian digital art curator Cinello announces the opening of MUSaEUM in New York, the first-ever showcase of Digital Artworks (DAW®) in the Americas. The renowned and unique digital art house brings a hand-picked collection of old-world masterpieces from Michelangelo, Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, and more to share with savvy art enthusiasts. The cutting-edge DAW® technology is a world-first patented hardware that contributes to the digital dissemination and preservation of artistic heritage. The digitized paintings offer international audiences and collectors a compelling opportunity to experience time-honored artworks and includes the option to purchase a limited-edition digital reproduction. MUSaEUM in New York opens on Dec. 9 at the Italian Cultural Institute and is free to the public through February 2023.

Created by Cinello in partnership with the Italian museum that houses the original work, each DAW® is produced as a new, certified, digital original - identical to the masterpiece from which it is derived. Of particular note, 50% of the proceeds from each sale is returned to the museum where the original work is showcased. In 2022, sales resulted in the equivalent of over 35,000 visitor tickets for partner museums, offering a significant amount of funds for the restoration and preservation of historic artifacts.

"We are delighted to exhibit some of the greatest masterpieces of world art history in their digital version for the first time in New York. Our goal is the dissemination and support of artistic heritage," says Cinello Founder & CEO Franco Losi. "We are honored to debut this futuristic art collection and display internationally, bringing marvelous and legendary Italian artworks and museum experiences to new audiences."

Curator Carlo Francini (UNESCO Florence Site Director) explains: "The title MUSaEUM in New York is a way for us to pay tribute to our cultural heritage and invite everyone to appreciate the beauty and uniqueness of the artistic treasures kept in our museums."

Seven foundations of Italian artistic heritage and three contemporary works were selected for display at MUSaEUM

  • Canestra di frutta (Basket of Fruit) by Michelangelo Merisi (Caravaggio) - Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, Milan
  • Ritrattodi Musico (Portrait of a Musician) by Leonardo da Vinci - Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, Milan

MUSaEUM features digital multiples in 1:1 scale in a limited series, certified and non-duplicable, thanks to this innovative patented technology that guarantees its management. MUSaEUM is inspired by Federico Borromeo's guidebook of the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, printed in 1625. A true pillar of art guidebooks, it aimed to describe the artworks in the cardinal's collection of Ambrosiana in a straightforward, easy and brilliant way.

A Cinello DAW® includes a high-resolution hardware file of the work rendered as a digital edition, a certificate of authenticity signed by the director of the museum housing the original, the property rights of the DAW® itself; and a handcrafted frame identical to the original art. DAW®s cannot be transferred, deleted, or 'burned.' Each DAW® permanently belongs to the buyer and is protected by Cinello's international patents. After sale, the works are conveniently portable, able to be viewed anywhere, anytime at the buyer's discretion. The first-ever Cinello DAW® sale was of Michelangelo's Tondo Doni in 2021.

A public panel discussion will be held on Friday, Dec. 9, at 5:30 p.m. at the Italian Cultural Institute (Istituto Italiano di Cultura) at 686 Park Avenue in New York City. It will feature guest speakers, including Brera Museum Director J. Bradburne, Ambrosiana Museum General Secretary Antonello Grimaldi, Lawyer Alessia Panella, and Founder and CEO of Cinello Franco Losi.
