Jason Momoa absolutely thinks Aquaman will be involved in new DC Universe

Jason Momoa absolutely thinks that Aquaman will be involved in the new DC Universe, saying no one’s bigger than Aquaman!

With James Gunn and Peter Safran charting a mostly new course for the DC Universe, the fates of certain characters have been left up in the air, but Jason Momoa is confident that Aquaman will be a part of their plans.

Peter [Safran]’s my producer [on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom], and is a dear friend,” Jason Momoa told Total Film during an interview. “I absolutely think Aquaman will be involved in the DCU. It’s on, bro – there’s no one bigger than Aquaman!” Momoa also touched upon the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which he hopes people are excited to see. “It’s fun,” Momoa said. “I really enjoy doing comedy. There’s some really funny stuff with Patrick Wilson. I really adore him. We had a great time working together. It’s like we’re brothers. There’s a lot of cool stuff happening in this one.

Jason Momoa has previously commented on rumours that he would be recast as Aquaman following the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. “I’ll always be Aquaman,” Momoa said. “The rumors are… I’ll always be Aquaman. Ain’t anyone coming in there and taking sh-t. And then, there might be some other characters too. I can play other things too. I can be funny and savage and charming, once in a while.” There have also been rumours, which Momoa himself has fed, that he would be taking on the role of Lobo in the new DC Universe, but nothing has been confirmed.

The first chapter of the DC Universe, titled Gods and Monsters, doesn’t seem to include Aquaman (or Lobo) at this stage, but anything could happen. James Gunn and Peter Safran may wait to see how Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be received before deciding on Aquaman’s future. Following the release of The Flash (June 16th) and Blue Beetle (August 18th), Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (December 25th) will be the final film of the old DCEU before Superman: Legacy officially kicks off the new franchise. It was recently announced that James Gunn would write and direct the Superman reboot.

If Aquaman does return to the DC Universe, should Jason Momoa continue playing the character, or would you like to see a new actor take on the role?
